Artist Statement

Using techniques associated with painting and drawing and the manipulation of found materials, my work is both obsessive and organic in its forms. Driven by an impulsive need to find, learn and make, my work is engaged in the long-standing relationship between art and science, in which artworks become a means of investigative inquiry. It is through this artistic practice that I investigate an interest in the relationship of the mind and body— the personal connection of body to self.

Currently, I am investigating methods of drawing that provide a locus for physical experience. By studying the ways that viewers are drawn to move through an artwork, I am developing a body of work that calls the viewer to physically engage in order to fully realize the works’ potential for meaning. Through a use of materials and processes that reference science and medicine, the artworks can produce a temporal and spatial experience and incite a visceral/bodily response through the viewer’s projected physical relationship with the work.
